Internet Governance and PDT quotes
ComputerWorld has a story on 'Internet Governance' today. Has quotes from Peter Dengate-Thrush, our professional lobbyist (I cant think of a better term as he has no day to day involvement of the .nz ccTLD) as well as background on WSIS and IANA.
The comments about ccNSO are interesting. From what I have seen the 'discussions' between Peter and representatives of .de have been very enlightening and dispel the myth about 'lets change it from the inside' viewpoint.

Domainz makes money
Guess a new management team can do wonders eh? This was reported in SMH today.
"The information technology group told its annual general meeting today that Domainz was performing above expectations and that it is profitable and cash flow positive. "
This is compared to the 'gloom and doom' of the last management that had the company losing money even with projections of much higher number of names.

Verisign vs ICANN Round 1
The lawsuit that Verisign claimed ICANN has violated American anti trust laws over Site Finder was has sufferred a set back. News.com has a story about this which I am sure will get wider coverage. The outcome of this suit will be a major turning point in Internet goverance. While I am no fan of ICANN the enemy of your enemy is thy friend.

FryUp on Maori TV tucker
Paul Brislen in his final FryUp has a rather good write up on the Maori TV domain name 'issue'. For him it is "off to see The Harold, The Harold, The Harold, the wonderful Harold of Auck!", or something.

Paul Brislen, IDG, Telecom and lawsuits?
Talking of Paul @ IDG. I have been told by a very good source that Telecom has threatened to sue IDG in the past over some of the opinion pieces Paul has written. Also it appears they have told the NZ Herald that they should not hire him and they are foolish to do so. Kinda reminds me of the good old Patrick O'Brien days at Domainz. It is amazing what threatening a lawsuit can do eh?

IDG on tv.maori.nz
Paul Brislen in his last 2 weeks or so at IDG (he is off to The Harold as he likes to insult call it) has the story of my registering tv.maori.nz. It has some very interesting quotes from Maori TV. Later today I will do my reply to the TV's statement that I have breached the Maori Television Service Act 2003. The relevant part is section 11.. it is amusing reading.

.nz Registrar List updated (at last)
I did an update of the Registrar List for the first time this year. Had limited tools to do the work and raw HTML editing of that large table with alternating cell colours was annoying so I used (yeah you can kill me later) MS Word and then ran HTML Tidy over it to clean up a good hunk of the crap it creates.
Anyway, the interesting thing is, as I expected, is that the drop in domain name prices had no major impact on pricing. If the new price had occurred at the SRS launch it would be a different issue.

tv.maori.nz
Well, cat is out of the bag about an idea I had with a certain domain name. I will blog more on this tonight but in the mean time if you are interested why don't you do a whois on tv.maori.nz. Look for coverage on a certain IT related website tomorrow *grumble*.

Free Parking .nz domain name TV ad
One thing I never expected ever to see on New Zealand TV occurred last night. Free Parking had a TV ad dedicated solely to advertise domain names on TV 3 last night. I only saw it once, it had the 'car branding' and about 'your name could be gone soon' type thing. It also ended with the price $39.95 and comment of 'one of the cheapest' and comment about no parking fees, which 99% of the viewers would not understand.
