Calling me a liar eh?
IDG has a story on the Intergen/Vodafone issue I posted about last week. The interesting thing is I spent a long time on the Intergen website looking for domain name information. Now Intergen says that it was online all this time... guess I am being called a liar?
In all of New Zealand perhaps half a dozen people know .nz domain name polices, process and the SRS history better than I do. If one of the 'experts' in this area can not find the alleged information on a public site I think it is safe to assume it is so well hidden that in reality it does not exist.
Knowing that Intergen (or one of its previous incarnations) wrote the DRS for Domainz you can reach your own conclusion on quality standards and over all process of that company.

Used domain name salesperson
Freeparking and Trademe have got together to offer a 'used' domain name market. NZ Herald has a story on it and the actual site is amusing to look at. As per normal the story has misleading remark about domain dispute process, it only applies to gTLD's and not .nz.

Vodafone, crackberries and marketing freebies
Other day I got a direct mail piece from Vodafone promoting their new crackberry service. It was on a quick trip to the rubbish when I saw in Vodafone red big large ‘FREE’ words. Well, this had the desired impact and that bit was opened. After seeing it was free stuff to get if you subscribe to the crackberry it was in turn about to go to the bin when I read the words ‘personalised domain name for 12 months’. Odd I thought, Vodafone is reselling names I guess, good on them.
Upon reading onwards it is fact a service from Intergen providing the registration and either providing it free as part of the Vodafone marketing plug or Vodafone is paying. My attention went from mild interest to full attention (most people would agree this is not a good thing for the recipient :-)

NZRS selects Catalyst IT for outsource
Heard about this last week but finally decided to go to the NZRS website to read the announcement. Catalyst IT is a good company, however... no separation has now occurred from the design, implementation, initial operation and now full out source of the SRS. Guess Catalyst is set for life now as would be very hard now for another company to get this contract off them with all the in house, and all likelihood some undocumented, knowledge.
I think that even with Catalyst IT being a closed registrar is a conflict now based on what they are doing for NZRS.
