parliament.nz app submissions todate
The 2LD application for parliament.nz so far is 0 for 5 for submissions in their favour. Sounds a bit like NZ Cricket team doesn't it?

Two .nz related pamphlets have been released by DNC
The DNC has released two .nz related pamphlets. These are "making a name for Yourself..." and " ready reference for registrants". They are full colour and in general well written for the 'lay person'. They are each 6 pages (3 double sided A4 pages) and have a good weight of paper (i.e., they do not feel cheap). For those that are asked about .nz names you should carry some of these around as it handles about 90% of the basic questions and information. On the whole 9 out of 10 for these two publications.

Registrar stats for gTLD, .au and .nz
I have blogged the market share and registrar averages for ICANN, auDA and DNC approved registrars. I think it makes some interesting points such as ICANN and DNC have very similar profile other than the names per registrar average.

Good Friday: Mormons love thy fellow domain registrants
Good Friday seems a good time to update people on familysearch.co.nz versus the Church Of Latter-Day Saints. For those that are new or have forgotten the Herald did a story about a year ago on the familysearch.co.nz dispute and also this Google search brings up other material.

After talking to the familysearch.co.nz registrant it seems neither side is backing down and it could soon be heading to the High Court. At the moment the content at familysearch.co.nz is located at familytracing.co.nz, I assume while the issue is unresolved?

I wonder what legal team is representing the Mormons in this dispute?

CNO vs .au vs .nz for registrars
I am just finishing a comparison of ICANN TLD's, .au and .nz with regard to the number of registrars and total names in the TLD. The results are amazing. I am trying to write my conclusions on my findings now...

Wholesale .nz fee stays same
InternetNZ has decided to keep the wholesale domain fee the same at $1.75 per month. I was a proponent of the fee being this level at the SRS launch (it was $2). I think at this stage $1.75 but when NZRS is expected to provide 7 figure dividends to InternetNZ I think the 'cost plus' thinking needs to be formalised.

Bloody sub-editors!
Is it just me or does part of the story on the ComCom determination of Telco Tax have an interesting place holder of someones title?

Then again maybe Telecom NZ does give titles like "Telecom general manager hrrm hrrm something Bruce Parkes."

Update: This was corrected some time in the afternoon on Good Friday. The major downside to IDG (and other news sites) is they do no list corrections made to stories. Thats why I always make a copy of the HTML :-)

Steady, Aim, Fire!
Looks like a registrar has been bad and a sanction is about to hit them. Reading the NZOC reports for the last three months refers to an ongoing investigation. The recent InternetNZ council meeting implied that the sanction was going to be determined (proved?) soon. Anyone want to take bets on who it is?

ComputerWorld on parliament.nz
ComputerWorld has a story on the parliament.nz application with quotes from DPF and myself (ripped off from our respective blogs :-)

InternetNZ settles Melbourne IT claim over Domainz sale
Interesting tidbit in the minutes of the InternetNZ council meeting. InternetNZ approved a payment of $20,000 to Melbourne IT to settle a claim that they had made. I wonder what the issue was and how much they actually asked for?

parliament.nz 2LD application
DNC announced today that an application for parliament.nz has been received. My first thinking is it fails the "Does not conflict with, duplicate or cause confusion about, any existing 2LD..." requirement as most people would not understand difference between it and govt.nz.

InternetNZ members meeting
The InternetNZ members meeting was interesting last night. The major thing that struck me after having no involvement with InternetNZ for 18 months (other than being on the 2LD working group reporting in via the NZOC) it seemed like I have never left. Most things/issues/people are the same as before. Scary eh?

Whatever happened to familysearch.co.nz Vs God?
With the .nz Disputes Process workgroup meeting today it reminded me of the God vs little guy story from July last year. I wonder what occurred on this issue, I see the familysearch.co.nz is parked at FreeParking and still owned by the same person as before. Did God (or in this case organised religion) back down?

iwi.nz?
I was curious about what was occurring for the .iwi.nz consultation. It was on the agenda of the last NZOC of meeting. After making some calls I have found out that very little seems to have occurred. It is assumed that this is because the .iwi.nz registrants are not responding.

Back into the fray
Talking of getting back into the fray. As most of the world seems to know it I might as well tell everyone. I (re)joined InternetNZ about 6 weeks ago and are planning to go to the business plan consultation meeting tonight. If I don't go its because I have had 2 meetings by 8:30am today and last night I did not leave the 'fine dining' area of CBD until... lets just say, it was late.

Man I still have 18 posts to do today just to keep up with the uberblogger.

NZRS and catching up
Last night NZRS had its 3rd birthday celebration 'cocktails'. Overall it was a good evening and saw many people I had not seen for years. It was strange being at an InternetNZ/NZRS event and  recognising less than half the people at it. Maybe it is time to get back into the fray...

BTW, I recall all the things said to me last night and the bidding on the audio recording starts at 9am.

PS Thanks for all the people last night that thought I had gone off the deep end with my musings on fricative's. The care and concern was touching :-)

voiceless pharyngeal fricative
I think I am going to create a blog for things I find online while doing research that add 'spice' to my knowledge. I found out about voiceless pharyngeal fricative's when I was doing some unicode research for a planned white paper on macron support and implemenation in relational databases. I think this explains it all. If you listen carefully I think this was the noise some people made during the 2000 InternetNZ AGM.
