nameboy.co.nz selling .nz names
I came across nameboy.co.nz the other day. Other than I think they are about 5 years too late with much of listed prices I think this is a classic case of where a .nz disputes process would come in handy. About a dozen names 'for sale or lease' strike me as balant cybersquating and the mere fact they are being listed on this site, or any site for that matter, demeans the entire industry. I looked up the registrant details of about 10 names and they were all the same Southern Alps New Zealand Limited. I guess these two sites use the same web design template :-)

$10,000 for Christchurch
After having paid $100 for christchurch.co.nz 'about 6 years ago' Jarrod Woodfield is trying to sell it for $10,000. Stuff has a fluff story online about it. I admire his hopes at getting that sum of money for it I do think he needs to wake up and realise why would anyone pay 10 grand for it? The other funny thing is he has the Wellington tourism logo on it.

SSC becomes registrar
NZ Herald has a story on State Services Comission becoming a .nz Registrar. I have been aware of a while about the SSC trying to figure out what to do with the registration name process and how to run it or select a registrar. I find the part that One Squared 'built the registrry'. I assume they mean the little web based application that handles name submissions and the approval process... yeah, that sounds like a registry to me.

Write up on the name drop service from Mikeindustries
I came across this very well written story about a persons first hand account of trying to get an expired .com name via the different 'name drop' services. Both the actual write up and the comments are worth a read. I enjoyed the entry so much that I spent more time on his website and read all about the Saltine Challenge.

Amusing ICANNWatch headline
I think that this headline on ICANNWatch is very amusing. The article has some interesting opinions of .tel gTLD application as well.

Destiny Church goes to ICANN!
Herald has a story about destinychurch.co.nz and how the Destiny Church is upset over this and stating they will go to court or ICANN to get the name. I can really see the DNC being amused by getting an order from ICANN or WIPO (via UDRP) for transfer of this name. Would help if either party had jurisdiction over .nz!

Thanks to DPF for this story as I could not see it on the site other than from his link.

Joys of public registrant details
I wonder if Christian Heritage New Zealand is aware of the details held by NZRS on their domain name (chp.org.nz)? As convicted child molester Graham Capill is still listed as the admin contact person for the domain name on the .nz whois (notice the amusing email address in this context?). Even though he has been removed from all aspects of the site other than a news item stating their disgust at his actions.
