HITS
Definition. Hits; How Idiots Track Success.
I have been saying this for over 10 years since working for the first commerical ISP in Canada and one of the few 'for profit' organistations with unrestricted access to NSFnet.

itunes.co.nz
In December I posted about the itunes.co.nz name that was registered by a local person. According to Stuff it seems that Apple has purchased this name of the registrant and everyone is happy. The interesting thing is it says itunes.com.au was recently purchased, the thing is you cant actually sell a .au name, it is against the policy. I guess Google and Apple get to avoid that policy.

ISPANZ Reborn
ISPANZ (ISP Association of NZ) has existing before. Using the WayBack Machine you can find its website. It was moribund for years it seems as from Jan 1997 to April 1999 the same information was listed. Now ISPANZ is 'reforming' based on reports in DomionPost due to "New Zealand's broadband market is suffering from a lack of true competition because current UBS resellers are faced with low margins and a very limited ability to differentiate between broadband products.". I find this interesting as it was created in 1996 due to concerns over Xtra's pricing changes. I found an old website with a summary of the background. The ironic thing is a few years ago InternetNZ removed the council 'allocation' for an 'industry representative'. Now it is reformed and they might be seeking help for administrative functions from InternetNZ. While .nz registrars are more than just ISP's the cross over on this group could be very good.

NZRS change of Chair
It was announced at the InternetNZ AGM that Anne Urlwin has been appointed the Chair of NZRS. I think Carol, the former Chair, said she had stepped down but I can not recall the exact words used. I follow the NZRS board events quite closely as I recommended the appointment of 4 of them. I even chaired the first NZRS board meeting for the first 5-10 minutes during the process to determine its first Chair.

InternetNZ Elections
The InternetNZ AGM on Friday night was tame, well, by InternetNZ standards. The results of the elections were Colin Jackson was voted President, David Farrar returned as Vice President. The following were (re)elected to council David Harris, Mark Harris, Peter Macaulay, Jennifer Northover, Rodney Prescott and Simon Riley.
